Meet Emmett

Emmett Jones, Ph.D has over 40 years of counseling, coaching, teaching, and supervisory experience in both inpatient, outpatient, and educational settings. My experience has been with diverse populations distressed with depression, anxiety, and PTSD, as well as people experiencing grief or adjusting to sudden life changes or disabilities. I enjoy working with individuals in need of counseling and coaching services and have directed various clinical/therapeutic programs along with the founding of a nationally accredited agency that provided professional job coaching and related services for many years in the Richmond Metropolitan Area. Over the years I have recognized the differences and benefits of both counseling and coaching as well as their unique purposes and approaches.

Counseling and Coaching Services is offered by Emmett L. Jones, PhD. and Associates Inc. for which I am the Director. I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist, with a Ph.D. in Multi-Cultural Community Clinical Psychology with studies and research in the area of diverse cultures, religion, and spirituality, specifically as it relates to psychological well-being. My passion is working with people with life challenges using a variety of therapeutic modalities that focus on the holistic needs of a person’s mind, body, and spirit. I draw from different interventions and techniques and utilize traditional therapeutic approaches such as CBT, Family Systems Therapy, along with faith-based-integrated approaches.

As a clinician, I also have training and experience that values cultural competency in the clinician’s work and the importance of understanding diverse cultures and world views that impacts the healing and therapy process. I also have many years of experience assisting persons with psychological, communication and vocational issues including persons with disabilities who are deaf, blind, deaf-blind, mobility impaired, as well as persons with chronic pain. I have a blended past of studies and experience in psychology, spirituality, and rehabilitation and hold other advanced degrees and credentials in these areas.
